COMOC Group: Centre for Ordered Materials, Organometallics and Catalysis

The COMOC Research Group at Ghent University, directed by Prof. dr. Pascal Van Der Voort (FRSC), is an internationally leading laboratory specializing in the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of advanced porous materials including Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), and mesoporous silicas for heterogeneous catalysis, photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and sustainable separations.

Key Research Areas

  • Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs): Photoenzymatic platforms, gold recovery from electronic waste, H2O2 photosynthesis, and electrosynthesis.
  • Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs): Defect engineering in Zr-MOFs (UiO-66), bimetallic active sites, and low-symmetry linkers for isotope separation.
  • Heterogeneous & Plasma Catalysis: Non-thermal plasma catalytic decomposition of VOCs, Guerbet reactions, and ozone-assisted catalytic oxidations.
  • Gas & Vapor Sorption: High-pressure methane and hydrogen storage, CO2 capture, and pore architecture design.
